They are distributed in the area around the city of Kandy in the central highlands of Sri Lanka, where they grow on the banks of the rivers. Its leaves are oblong – ovate to narrow – lanceolate, with a uniform medium green color, without pattern, resembling those of Cryptocoryne Parva but becoming larger (emerged up to 25, submerged up to 20 cm high). The blade of the spathe is rough and quite variable in color, often dark purple or reddish brown.
The plant described as Cryptocoryne Lucens by HCD De Wit in 1962 is a variety of the C. x Willisii hybrid complex that is found quite frequently in the hobby.
Cryptocoryne Lucens is a beautiful green, easy foreground aquarium plant. It is similar to Cryptocoryne Parva but they grow a little higher and faster. Crypt is a perfect carpet plant for any planted aquarium because they stay short and is very easy to maintain. Cryptocoryne Lucens is relatively small, narrow leaf, and perfect for any fish tanks and aquariums.
Like other crypts, this plant is recommended for beginners due to its ease in keeping and low care requirements. If grown in good aquarium substrate such as Controsoil, the plant can feed through the roots and grow quickly without the need for high light, CO2 or fertilizer dosing.
Crypts can be grown emersed or submerged. Propagate by splitting the rhizome or cutting off new growth and replanting .
